Graphic Works by Henry Moore

Marlborough Graphics is pleased to present an online exhibition of nine lithographs and etchings by Henry Moore.

Best known for his substantial sculptural output, Henry Moore was also a prolific draughtsman and printmaker. Moore produced his earliest prints in the form of linocuts in the 1930’s. However, it was not until 1950 that he formed the first of his major graphic portfolios, Prométhée, a group of eleven lithographs illustrating André Gide’s translation of Goethe’s book by the same name.

Moore continued to make both lithographs and etchings regularly, often using several plates in one composition. The other works presented are all fine examples of Moore’s relentless pursuit of depicting interpretations of the human figure. From the map-like contour lines of Two Reclining Figures (Linear), 1969 to the sketch-like abbreviations of Eight Reclining Figures 1, 1966, these works offer the viewer an insight into the thought process of a sculptor translating form into two dimensions.
