Marlborough Graphics is pleased to present an exhibition of woodcuts by Allen Jones and H.C. Westermann.

Allen Jones’ Letters is a series of woodcut prints on rice paper, printed in 2007 by master printer Lu Pin in Beijing. The works reflect the idea that the human body could be the basis of an expressive sign language and are inspired by the artist’s two large scale sculptures for Yuzi Paradise Sculpture Parks in Guilin and Shanghai China.

H. C. Westermann’s The Connecticut Ballroom, printed in 1975 is a portfolio of seven woodcut prints on Natsume paper. Westermann’s prints pair playfulness and humour alongside a range of personal, literary, artistic, and pop-cultural references in a style that reflect a multitude of art movements including Surrealism, Expressionism, Pop art and ‘low art’ forms such as comic books.
