Manolo Valdes: Material and Memory

29 April 2005 - 21 May 2005

Press Release

Artist Info

Valdés’s aesthetic proposition is not only one of the most valid on the Spanish scene; it is also one of the most personal and thoughtful voices to address the history of art on the international scene. Valdés resembles the art historian in his work; he is immensely knowledgeable about art history, from which he constantly gathers data. But this Moviola that Valdés compiles and turns on is not a memorization of other works or a simple appropriation of heritage and tradition. It is a recollection of the detail by which Valdés “makes present” the great images of the past.
