Diango Hernández was born in 1970 in Sancti Spíritus, Cuba, where he studied industrial design. His path changed when he opted for an artistic career and decided to travel abroad, before settling in Düsseldorf, Germany, where he currently lives and works. In parallel to his own practice, he has an ongoing curatorial project, Lonelyfingers, with German artist Anne Pöhlmann, through which they collaborate with other artists. Lonelyfingers has recently been showcased at Museum Abteiberg, Mönchengladbach.
His work has been included in many group shows in international institutions such as MOMA in New York and the Hayward Gallery in London, and has been presented at the 2005 Venice Biennale, the 2006 Biennales in São Paulo and Sydney and the 2010 Liverpool Biennial. Recent solo shows include: Kunsthalle Münster, 2015; Landesgalerie, Linz, 2014; Kunstverein Nürnberg, 2014.
