Born in 1958 in Maputo, Mozambique, Ângela Ferreira grew up and studied in South Africa. Ferreira's work is concerned with the ongoing impact of colonialism and post-colonialism on contemporary society, an investigation that is conducted through in-depth research and the distillation of ideas into concise and resonant forms.

Ferreira represented Portugal at the 52nd Venice Biennale in 2007. Recent exhibitions include MACO, Mexico (2015); CAAA, Guimarães (2015); Stroom, Den Haag (2014); Lumiar Cité, Lisbon (2014); Lubumbashi Biennale, Congo (2013); Stills, Edinburgh (2013). Ferreira recently won Novo Banco Photo Award 2015, the most prestigious contemporary art award in Portugal. She lives and works in Lisbon.
